Hazel is a smart, creative, athletic 12-year old with a lot going on in her life.
She’s the oldest of four children and is active in music, sports, academics and her church group. Even with everything she’s doing, Hazel still looks for ways to support causes that matter. We asked Hazel to tell us about her latest fundraiser: Silence to Silence the Refugee Crisis.
Hi Hazel! Tell us about yourself.
I’m Hazel. I really like to play football and to rock climb. If I had to describe myself in three words they would be cheerful, funny and artistic.
You’ve set up a fundraiser to support refugees. Why did you choose this cause?
I wanted to support refugees because I looked into this cause, and I felt like there was a huge crisis. Seeing the pictures made me kind of sad, so I wanted to help that cause. Refugees are real people, and I feel like I could be one of them.

You’ve committed to one hour of silence for every $25 you raise. Tell us why you chose this idea.
When I saw this idea on the Go Jane Give website I realized that this was a perfect thing to do because I’m so busy already. Not talking would be fun, and it would fit with my time schedule and my busy life. I’m excited to start being silent because then my friends and people around me will take notice of what I’m doing and try to help the cause as well. I have not started yet, but I’m looking forward to it. I want to see people’s faces when they realize why I am being silent.
What advice do you have for other people who are thinking about doing a fundraiser?
I just want to say that by doing simple things like being quiet or hosting a bake sale, we can make big changes in the world. When we turn our talents into service, we may not realize it, but someone in the world is thankful.

Thank you, Hazel! We love how you’re making a difference in the world! Best of luck with your efforts!
